Anti-Poaching
Guardians of Wildlife
PRESERVING NATURE, PREVENTING POACHING
At Panyame, we are not just protectors of wildlife; we are its guardians. Spanning 210,000 Hectares of some of the most diverse and spectacular wildlife areas in Mozambique, our mission is clear – to preserve this natural wonder.
This daunting task requires relentless effort, resources, and dedication. Our anti-poaching unit is at the forefront of this mission, constantly striving to expand its capabilities through more boots on the ground, enhanced equipment, and superior training.
Foot Patrols
THE HEART OF OUR CONSERVATION EFFORTS
To safeguard our vast lands, our game scouts, the unsung heroes of conservation, undertake rigorous foot patrols. These patrols target strategically important areas and often include collaboration with the Tchuma Tchato program, local police, and Guarda da Fronteira (Border police). The effectiveness of these patrols lies in their meticulous execution by our well-trained teams. Poachers, wary of these areas, often avoid them, but when they do intrude, our teams' expertise in tracking often leads them right to the poacher's doorstep.
Boat Patrols
PROTECTING OUR AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM
Our boat patrols are essential in combating the rise of illegal fishing on Lake Cahora Bassa due to the increased demand for fish in Central Africa. Focused and expertly trained, our teams navigate the lake, swiftly identifying and addressing illegal fishing. This hands-on approach not only conserves the aquatic ecosystem but also optimizes resource use.
The effectiveness of our patrols is notable at the Mbadzi river, where our outpost supports daily monitoring, encouraging sustainable fishing practices. This effort ensures the health of fish populations and promotes responsible harvesting, underscoring our commitment to aquatic life preservation in the conservancy.
